My Hulk is dead…

…damnit.  And in High-Sec too!  Man, did I EVER screw up! LOL!  And here I was thinking High-Sec was SO safe, hehe.  Not so, young padiwan. Now listen, and learn.

Ultimately, the thing that killed me was just about the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard.  And apparently it’s a well known EVE mechanic, that somehow over the course of several years of playing EVE, I’d never heard of.  Apparently, if you’re in a fleet and someone – ANYONE in the fleet has their “NUM LOCK” key turned on… no one else in the fleet can fire upon someone that has fired on the fleet.

So there I was minding my mining business, when some one named Mullered2 shows up in my belt – people dropping in happens fairly often ‘cuz I’m in a busy mining area.  But instead of moving on, like most folks do, he flips my can. And so of course my defensive drones, which are always out-n-about start attacking him. BUT, he doesn’t turn red to either of my other fleet pilots. I was like, what?!?!  As soon as I targeted him with my command ship I got the Concord warning that I would be unjustly blasted from the sky by Concord if I did anything to the bastard ripping my Hulk appart. ARGH!  By that time it was mostly too late, I made a feeble effort to warp the Hulk out, but it was toast before the warp engines even got half-charged.  By that time the pirate’s buddy, Soporificstorm had arrived to get his share of the goodies out of my now wrecked Hulk.

OH well, I had the funds to replace it, but it’s going to make getting that Orca just that much harder since I’m now down about 200M ISK.  The rule to be learned here is, never – NEVER play EVE with your NUM Lock key turned on! God, that has GOT to be the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard of, but there you have it! At least that’s what I was told in chat. I haven’t been able to confirm this little gem through Google searches, but I can’t seem to find any other reason out there why other fleet-members should not be allowed to target players that are attacking other fleet members… I’d love someone to direct me to documentation about the where’s and why’s regarding this (bad) game mechanic?  Any takers?

OH, and if you see Mullered2 and/or Soporificstorm in your travels, feel free to send them a free gift – like a cruise missile or something just as warm and fuzzy 😛  No hard feelin’s.  Enjoy!

  1. Ok I think I figured out the “real reason” that I could not target the pirate Mullered2 – and it’s still one of the dumbest things I’ve ever heard.

The aggro rules are, if someone steals from your can, the thief aggros you and your corp – but NOT your Fleet (who happens to be right there supposedly for protection) – How stupid is that? If a thief steals from someone “in fleet,” he should aggro the whole fleet. Not to do so is just about the stupidest game mechanic I’ve ever heard of. CCP, seriously, y’all need to take some Ex Lax and pop your heads out. Jeez…

This is really one of the worst mechanics I’ve seen in any MMO and honestly I’m almost ready to “rage quit” my three accounts over it, ‘cuz there’s really nothing I can do to prevent this from happening again, other than warping out – wheee! Why even bother fleeting up if you’re not allowed to attack pirates that are attacking your fleet members?!?! Dumbest thing I’ve ever come upon, anywhere, period.

And I don’t blame Mullered2 nor Soporificstorm for exploiting this mechanic – it’s totally in their best interest, and anyone else’s for that matter to make some serious ISK by exploiting this idiotic mechanic. In fact, now that I know about it, maybe I’ll go pharm some Hulks just for shits-n-giggles! 😛

  2. I feel for ya bed… Mullered2 and Soporificstorm destroyed a hulk in my corp the other day, along with a hauler and a couple frigates. They went on to wardec my corp.

Anyways, NUMlock thing hasn’t been confirmed. Never come across this problem and I always have numlock on.

Murme or whatever the corp is, is funded by big corps. Their paid to greif people so they get lots of backing…

Hope you have better luck this time around.

  3. Well – I have a “work-around” in place now. And I’ll be able to kill them now if they show their pirate heads around my neck of the woods again.

Main thing is to make sure one of your well armed mates is the one that drops the can for your hulks to mine into – that way they can’t aggro/kill your hulks without a serious fight on their hands.

  4. Well, my run in with these guys was because someoen had paid them to dec my corp. Not much difference though because they were flipping before they even declared.

Basically all I can say to people out there is, if you don’t want to encounter these guys, stay away from Gergish. (It’s the closest highsec to the evegate).
