Well I’m back from my Xmas travels and I gave a lot of music this year which got me to thinking about music in LotRO; and why some of the “old” classics haven’t been ported over. Most are very simple, catchy tunes that should port very well over to the ABC music format that LotRO uses. Some that I’d really like to see would be some of the classic Herb Alpert tunes (Taste of Honey, Lonely Bull, Spanish Flea, etc.) A couple of his tunes were used for TV game shows – like “The Dating Game.” Or some of the other classic movie tunes like “The Good, The Bad, & The Ugly” (takes a min. to get to the song). Seems like the only classic opening riff folks know today is “Smoke on the Water,” LOL.
I gave my folks some Herb Alpert & the TJB (for Dad), and Simon & Garfunkel (for Mom), and my sisters got Billy Joel and Journey. All stuff I remember them listening to on vinyl when I was a wee little lad in the 60’s, 70’s & 80’s. Wish I woulda burned ’em while I was up there, just wasn’t thinking and we were all busy partying and stuff. Oh well, I’ll just have to put ’em on my Amazon wish list 😛
Anyways, it got me wondering what would be say, the top-10 most recognizable opening riffs (pre-Y2K). Smoke on the Water probably has to be number one, but what other songs open with riffs that are immediately recognizable? Here’s my top-10, but y’all can chime in on what you think should be on the list:
-
Windy (The Association) (kind of a silly vid, but best version of the song I could find)
I’m sure there are lots better, but I was in a hurry 😛 I’ll probably be revising this a bit so let me know of any great intros – I’m sure something from The Who, Rolling Stones, or even one-hit-wonders could unseat some of the ones I’ve got up there now. I’d like to keep them “instrumental riffs,” otherwise “We Will Rock You” by Queen would be up there, but how do you play clapping/drums on a horn???
Anyways, hope y’all had a great Yuletide and that the upcoming New Year will be a great one!
Songs that were on the list but got axed for various reasons:
One (Three Dog Night) , Rise (Herb Alpert), Best Friend (Queen)
